Wall Street Has Barely Started Buying Bitcoin
Wall Street has finally accepted that client portfolios should own bitcoin, but advisers have barely bought any.

TFTC - Truth for the Commoner Bitcoin Brief
Sup, freaks. Wall Street spent years telling clients that the responsible bitcoin allocation was zero, and now the same industry is inching toward the obvious conclusion that zero is its own bet. The research has changed much faster than the portfolios.
LEAD STORY | |||||||||||||||
Wall Street Has Barely Started Buying BitcoinRiver put out a report this week making the case that a 10% bitcoin allocation can improve the risk-adjusted returns of a long-term portfolio. Its model lands on a price range of $250,000 to $840,000 over the next three to five years. I would not bet the farm on a spreadsheet that tries to tell us where bitcoin will trade years from now, but this one shows what could happen when enormous pools of capital begin competing for a fixed supply. River estimates that investment advisers have allocated about 0.008% of client portfolios to bitcoin. Among 30 of the largest registered investment advisers, it found exposure at 29 firms but a median allocation of only 0.1%. River built those estimates from public filings rather than a perfect census of every client account. Even if they are off by a decent margin, Wall Street has spent years warming up to bitcoin in research reports while keeping client money parked at effectively zero. The 2026 Bitwise and VettaFi adviser survey found that 32% of 299 financial advisers had allocated to crypto in client accounts during 2025. Among the client portfolios that had crypto exposure, 64% held more than 2%. Bitwise surveyed advisers, while River estimated holdings from filings, so the numbers do not line up perfectly. They still describe an industry that has accepted the argument for bitcoin without actually moving much money. River models a roughly $333 trillion pool of global financial assets and asks what happens if 20% to 40% of it adopts a 2% to 4% bitcoin allocation. Those assumptions produce $1.3 trillion to $5.3 trillion in estimated net inflows and, after applying the report's 3x market-value response, a bitcoin market cap between $5.5 trillion and $17.5 trillion. That works out to roughly $250,000 to $840,000 per coin. Advisers may move more slowly, sell through the first ugly drawdown, or discover that the 3x multiplier falls apart as bitcoin gets bigger. River built a scenario, not a promise, and reality is under no obligation to cooperate with a spreadsheet. The money is lagging because career risk matters more to most wealth managers than being early. A 1% allocation that gets cut in half can be defended as prudent experimentation. Put 10% of a client's portfolio into bitcoin before the rest of the industry and a bad year can get you fired. There is personal downside in moving first and very little in moving with the herd. Investment committees are moving from arguing about whether they can own bitcoin to arguing about whether the number should be 1%, 2%, 5%, or more. An ETF share is not self-custody, and owning one does not mean an adviser understands bitcoin. It does kill the old excuse that the asset is too hard for clients to access. A shift that looks trivial in percentage terms becomes enormous when the denominator is global wealth. Bitcoin's supply does not expand when an investment committee finally signs off, so managers who wait for the herd may find that the price has moved before they do.

CUSTODY SECURITY The COLDCARD Wave 3 Coins Have Started MovingCoins stolen in the COLDCARD weak-entropy incident have started moving. Galaxy Research's Alex Thorn reported that one of 293 canonical Wave 3 vaults spent for the first time, moving roughly 20.50 BTC that Galaxy clusters to one reporter group. At Galaxy's block 965,234 cutoff, about 11.38 BTC had crossed three THORChain inbound vaults into ETH after refunds, while 9.12 BTC remained at a bitcoin staging address. The transactions are visible on-chain, although the address grouping, vault totals, and conclusions about the operator come from Galaxy. Thorn says the spend exposed a 2-of-2 multisig script and several transaction fingerprints, but none of that tells us who controls the coins. The other 292 vaults still held 187.23 BTC at the cutoff, and those funds remain under the attacker's control rather than recovered or frozen. If you used an affected MK3, follow Coinkite's migration warning.
ENERGY GEOPOLITICS Washington Gets Control Before Venezuela Pumps the BarrelsThe United States and Venezuela held an implementation ceremony for their new oil agreements this week. According to the White House, North American Blue Energy Partners received 100-year concessions over 17 fields containing about 65 billion claimed proved barrels and gave the Department of War's Office of Strategic Capital a 35% stake in its corporate parent. The State Department also received the right to buy 20% of production at cost and first refusal on the rest. Washington gained extraordinary leverage over the project, but it did not buy 55% of Venezuela's oil. Caracas says the bilateral project runs for 25 years and that Venezuela retains sovereign title. The contracts are not public, so we have no way to square that with Washington's 100-year description. The politics are moving faster than the oil. Rystad expects the first production gains to come from repairing old fields, while any major increase in Orinoco output will require much more capital, diluent, upgrading, and infrastructure.
PARENTAL RIGHTS Virginia Punished a Mother for Letting Her Child WalkA Virginia judge gave Karyann Parkinson a six-month suspended sentence after her five-year-old son walked half a mile to a pond in their gated community. Reason reports that he was unharmed and knew the route. CPS also issued a founded neglect finding that she appealed. Parkinson once worked for former state Sen. Jill Vogel, who sponsored Virginia's 2023 reasonable-childhood-independence law. Three years later, the state used a delinquency statute to convict her for exercising the parental judgment that law was meant to protect. Parkinson believes officials chose the charge to get around the law, but the public record does not prove a political motive. “A country where Karyann Parkinson is put on a child abuse registry for letting her five year old walk to the lake in their gated community and Lindsay Clancy gets off for the murder of her three children is a country under demonic possession.” The Clancy jury began its sixth day Thursday without a verdict. If it acquits her while Virginia calls Parkinson a child abuser, I stand by it.
DATA CENTERS Data Centers Are Negotiating Their Social License to BuildAmerica needs more domestic compute, and the towns sitting on the land, power, and water should not give those resources away for a ribbon cutting. Spotlight PA surveyed deals involving cash payments, school support, emergency-services funding, local-hiring requirements, recreation-center upgrades, and a lazy river. Take the money, build the fire station, and fix the recreation center, but do not let a flashy donation replace a fair tax base, enforceable infrastructure commitments, local training, protection from costs being dumped on residents, or an honest count of permanent jobs. Communities should want the buildout and negotiate accordingly because the scarce resources are the land, power, water, and political permission required to build. When the construction crews leave, the town will still have to live with whatever tax base, infrastructure, and workforce the deal actually created.
MINING DECENTRALIZATION Bitcoin Mining Decentralization Runs All the Way to the ChipVinteum brought a small group of developers and researchers to São Paulo for a five-day mining deep dive that ran from pooled-mining history and Stratum V2 all the way down through Bitcoin Core's mining IPC interface, P2Pool, firmware, hashboards, and BM13xx ASIC documentation. Participants spent the week learning how to inspect the full stack rather than trusting every layer below the pool. Mining decentralization depends on people who understand protocols, node interfaces, firmware, electronics, and silicon. Stratum V2's application layer is still alpha and Bitcoin Core calls its mining IPC interface experimental, so there is plenty left to build. Vinteum is creating the technical bench in Brazil and Latin America to do it.

AQUA Wallet v0.5.3 Can Switch Lightning Providers Without an App UpdateAQUA Wallet v0.5.3 can switch Lightning providers without forcing users to install another app update. It also moves AQUA's GDK dependency from version 0.77.6 to 0.77.9. The official notes describe the rest as bug fixes, performance improvements, and preparation for Indra. The provider change gives AQUA room to move its Lightning backend without waiting for every user to download a new app-store release, which should make it easier to route around an unreliable provider. The upstream release has the complete notes.
