Perspective Is Important

Our social media team at TFTC shared this clip from 2010, which shows a gentleman purchasing 10 bitcoin for $3.48. Kind of wild to think that was once possible. Even more wild to think that I know exactly where I was 15 years ago and the time that has elapsed between now and then doesn't seem like that much. Time is a crazy thing.

When you're younger, all of the older people in your life warn you, "Enjoy every moment. It only goes by faster as you get older." You naively shake it off thinking, "Alright, boomer. Move along now." But as you age, and particularly after you have children, the reality of the speed warping of time hits you like a ton of bricks.

I think many bitcoiners need to learn to appreciate this speed warping of time, how far we've come in a relatively very short period of time, and begin to prepare for how much things can and will change in what seems like a blink of an eye. As I point out in the tweet above, the interface of the website above looks ancient. Yes, some may have preferred the simpler, more straightforward interfaces that existed on the web in 2010. However, one needs to consider the smart phone revolution that has swept the world over the last 15-years, the new mediums by which people interact with the internet i.e, mobile apps, high-performant APIs and, now, AI prompts and outputs. Billions of people are interacting with the internet in ways that would have seemed crazy only a decade and a half ago.

To that point, the buying flow for bitcoin in the video linked in the tweet is comical compared to the ability we have to open up a mobile app, find the buy button and smash buy right on the spot, with some exchanges giving you the ability to automatically sweep the funds to cold storage. On top of this, bitcoin's payment infrastructure is becoming more robust by the day, custody solutions are extremely secure, insurance products are coming to market, bitcoin is being recognized as pristine collateral, banks are talking about enabling their clients to lend against their bitcoin, the mining industry is embedding itself within the energy sector and nation states seemed to be priming the pumps for a race to accumulate as much as possible.

If you compare where bitcoin was in 2010 to where it is today and think about the accelerated adoption that will manifest moving forward, it's not far fetched to say that bitcoin will be the reserve currency of the world. Many will scoff and laugh at that notion, but they also scoffed at the people who were buying bitcoin via CoinPal in 2010. Enjoy these days while they last. We'll look back at them with an "Oh, that was cute" type of mentality 15 years from now.

The Next Cold War: Bitcoin vs China in a Post-Dollar World

Balaji Srinivasan presented a striking vision of the post-dollar world where only two power structures remain: Bitcoin (BTC) representing hard money and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) representing hard power. He argues that as the dollar collapses, Democrats will increasingly align with Chinese communism—pointing to Governor Newsom already calling China a "long-term partner" and Tim Walz asking China to intercede in international disputes. Meanwhile, Republicans will embrace Bitcoin maximalism, following the pattern of "after orange man, orange coin."

"This recreates the Cold War but with America as the battleground instead of Europe." - Balaji

This isn't simply East versus West redux. Balaji notes that Chinese citizens themselves are turning to Bitcoin as protection against their own government's financial overreach, where the state treats company bank accounts as piggy banks. The coming realignment won't be geographic but ideological—those who believe in centralized control versus those who champion cryptographic property rights and monetary sovereignty.
